He cooperated with many economic scientists in Germany, Austria and France. His "Principles of Political Economy (or the Science of General Economy)" published in 1889, is the first reference book of political economy in the Southeast of Europe.
Motif: portrait of Blaž Lorković Blaž Lorković (b. Jan. 29, 1839, Jarčepolje near Karlovac) was Croatian writer, jurist and economist. The child of the romantic Illyric revival raised under the increasing pressures of absolutism. Lorković was not able to reconcile his feelings of Croatism with the current affairs. His strivings toward the rise of Croatia were in conflict with the official politic attitudes of clergymen,. He left his office in 1862 because he was hindered in his public activities. He went on writing in magazines "Naše gore list" and "Pozor", and studied at the Law School in Zagreb where he graduated in 1866. He continued his study at Graz where he got his doctorate in law in 1871. Very soon Lorković began to teach political economy, financial sciences and financial legislation at the Law School in Zagreb. Until his death in 1892 he was dedicated to his scientific work, and fulfilled a series of functions at the Law School and at the University of Zagreb. From 1883 to 1884 he was rector of the University. His pioneer writings in the field of economics introduced modern procedures of the contemporary European economic principles.
