Even if the oldest ethnological records are missing, Christmas and its spiritual context has been recorded in the works of sculptures and painters in smaller or larger, partly destroyed or partly preserved sacral building throughout the country.
Christmas is considered the major holiday in the Christian world; in fact, the celebration of birth of the God-man, Jesus Christ, marks the departure from the darkness of uncertainty in the civilizational sense and reflects the traditional aesthetic and tendencies in endowing human existence with meaning. The significance and beauty of Christmas Eve or the Holy Night are therefore deeply ingrained in literature, art and music, not only of the great artists; even ordinary people find an inspiration in these days, revealing their generosity of spirit and their own greatness. In Croatia, one of the oldest Catholic states, Christmas celebrations have a long tradition. Even if the oldest ethnological records are missing, Christmas and its spiritual context has been recorded in the works of sculptures and painters in smaller or larger, partly destroyed or partly preserved sacral building throughout the country. Stamps were printed in sheets of 20 pieces. HPT issued a first day cover (FDC) and a commemorative sheet.
