Stjepan Radić Croatian politician and peasant leader, founded with his brother Antun the Croatian Popular Peasant Party in 1904.
In the series of postage stamps entitled "Great Croats" , HPT - Croatian Post and Telecommunications issued a regular postage stamp bearing a portrait of Stjepan Radić.The nominal stamp value includes the amount of 7 HRD covering the postage plus an additional amount of 3 HRD in favour of the banking and development institution by the name of "Hrvatski radiša". Motif: Stjepan Radić (Trebarjevo Desno July 11,1871. - Zagreb August 8, 1928.)Croatian politician and peasant leader, after studying law at the University of Zagreb, Prague and Budapest and political sciences in Paris, founded with his brother Antun the Croatian Popular Peasant Party in 1904. He tried to internationalize the Croatian question. This outstanding political dynamics put Radić to the head of a large-scale movement aimed against the Serbian hegemony which was oppressing all the non-Serbian peoples. He collaborated with Svetozar Pribičević for the establishment of a new state order. Radić was given a mandate to form a new government but the Serbian radicals did not want a government in which they could not play a leading role. In a heated atmosphere in the Yugoslav Assembly the Serbian radical Puniša Račić shot Pavle Radić and Đuro Basariček. Mortally wounded, Stjepan Radić died in Zagreb. The stamp was printed in sheets of 30 peaces each. HPT put the FDC envelope for sale and a commemorative sheet as well.
