Numerous archaeological sites are discovered in the area of Gruice with remains of galleys from Illyrian, Greek and Roman era. In the offshore waters is a myriad of beautiful sea caves.
Gruica Lighthouse Gruica is situated in the place that is dividing line between Kvarner and Dalmatian islands. It was built in 1872 on the south-west side of the island of Gruica, two nautical miles from Ilovik, three nautical miles from Premuda, four nautical miles from Silba and nine nautical miles from Mali Lošinj. The island, size 300x400m has a low lands configuration. There are numerous wild rabbit litters. Rabbits are roaming free during the night and early dawn nibbling at poor vegetation and during the day hiding in the underground passages. Close by a facility is a medium size tamarisk woodland and well tended gardens surround the building. It is a one story facility with a lighthouse device of 17 meter height above the sea-level. The total area of a facility amounts to 120 square meters, and close to it are two smaller supporting facilities. Electric generating unit is supplying electricity and there is also a water storage tank. In front of a facility is a pier for accommodating vessels and a crane used to raise or lower smaller boats, and on the opposite side is a hangar located at the end of an auxiliary pier. Numerous archaeological sites are discovered in the area of Gruice with remains of galleys from Illyrian, Greek and Roman era. In the offshore waters are myriad of beautiful sea caves. The seabed of the waters surrounding Gruice is full of underwater passages and corridors with permanently inhabited large numbers of all the species of whitefish. Aquatory Gruice is a rich feeding area of valuable fish however a dangerous zone, and anglers are not frequent visitors to the island.
