Voščica Lighthouse Voščica is one of the tiniest lighthouses constructed on the most salient point of the island of Krk, facing mainland. It used to be an important point in a defence strategy of a channel. In front of it was built a ten meter high Venetian tower at the end of the 15th century. A lighthouse is erected on an isolated location, in a genuine environment, ten kilometres from Njivice and separated from the mainland Jadranovo by a very narrow 626 m long stretch of the sea. On that very spot in 50 BC was conducted a historical sea battle between Pompeian and Caesar followers, the event that placed Kvarner on the map of a world history. After a completion of research and restoration work in the year 2006, a lighthouse was registered on a list of protected cultural monuments. Lighthouse Voščica was built in 1875 on the peninsula Vežica, the north cape of the island of Krk, fortified with stone walls from all the sides, giving an impression of a fortress. A lighthouse facility is a medium size single story house; covering 59 square meters of accommodation space, 7 meters away from the sea and a lighthouse tower is of 9 meter height above the sea-level. Nearby a facility is a pier for accommodating boats and a medium size beach. The house has electric wiring and a water storage tank. It can be reached by car. It is well preserved in spite of being exposed to gusts of north – east wind, particularly strong in this area. The area is overgrown with grass, and sea - surrounding is rich in different species of fish.
