CENTENARY OF FILM IN CROATIA - CHARACTERS FROM CARTOON

The animated film has a long tradition in Croatian cinematography and the notion animated film is identified with the notion of "The Zagreb School of Animated Film. This school is one out of five most eminent schools of animation in the world of film. In the framework of this school the most eminent authors are definitely Zlatko Grgić, Ante Zaninović, Boris Kolar, Milan Blažeković and Pavao Štalter who have filmed the highly esteemed and praised, in European circles, animated series about "Professor Baltazar". This popular series of animated films for children differs essentially from all other produced series of animated films in the world up to the present, in that it features stressed esthetic values and points out fundamental moral categories or values as opposed to violence. The film "Tko pjeva, zlo ne misli" (Who Sings Means No Harm) was declared the best Croatian film of all times by the film critics. The film has partly operetta characteristics but at the same time it looks like a musical due to the existence of numerous musical numbers.
