Motiv: "Veli Jože" - an illustration for Vladimir Nazor's story made by Saša Šantel in 1908. The stamps are issued in sheets, each containing 20 stamps. Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić is the granddaughter of the poet Ivan Mažuranić and the daughter of Vladimir Mažuranić, the researcher of Croatian legal and cultural tradition. She draw the contents and characters' names from the Slavonic and Croatian mithology, and she brought to life, in the best possible way, the almost lost world of the pre-Christian Croatian beliefs. "Stories from Ancient Times" by Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić have very early been translated into English and Russian, and later into other world languages. One of the best known legends in the Croatian literature is the story "Veli Jože" (Big Joseph) by Vladimir Nazor, which the author wrote during his stay in Istria. The story "Veli Jože" became one of the most popular stories in Istria. The story is a reflection of the political events in Istria at the beginning of the 20th century.
