Motif: A drawing of a 15-th century printing press: a reconstruction. Two events in the 15th century changed the world: Columbus’s discovery of America in 1492 and the other, Gutenberg’s invention of the printing press. The 1994- marks the 500th anniversary of the press in Senj which in 1494 printed the first Old Croatian book in Glagolitic script, the Missal. It was not an anonymous venture: we know that the people who took part in the production of the book were Blaž Baromić, Silvestar Bedričić and Gašpar Turčić. The Senj Missal from 1494 is the crowning glory of several centuries of Glagolitic writing and literature on Croatian soil.
