THE 150TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE WEEKLY PERIODICAL

Motif: The head of the literary periodical "Zora Dalmatinska" The magazine over the Illyric Period "Zora dalmatinska" is the first Dalmatian literary periodical published in Croatian. Its publishers were the family Battara and the editors were succeedingly Ante Kuzmanić, Petar Preradović (1846), Ivan August Kaznačić (1845), Nikola Valentić (1846) and Ante Kuzmanić (1846-1849) again. The editorial staff never succeeded in creating a general policy of the house, concerning the uniformity and ortography of the Croatian language.However, some very fine authors from Dalmatia and other parts in Croatia published their writings in "Zora dalmatinska". Its first editor, doctor and amateur writer A. Kuzmanić failed the majority of the young literary public eager to acquire new ideas and to be informed about the current literary and political movements in Europe. Kuzmanić, on the whole, disapproved of Gaj’s ideology and his linguistic reformas. Those early seeds of national literature and literary criticism have proved very fruitful until nowadays.
